Camp Fire Forest Restoration

The November 8, 2018 Camp Fire devastated the Town of Paradise along with over 150,000 acres. TSS is assisting Butte County Fire Safe Council’s (BSFSC) efforts to restore the community of Paradise and surrounding forestland. Over one million trees were damaged by the Camp Fire and will likely be removed over the next two years. TSS is providing strategies to optimize utilization of trees removed so that tree removal costs can be mitigated. Recommendations have been provided by TSS regarding local ordinances to facilitate siting of collection yards and processing operations. In addition, TSS has assisted the BCFSC with grant applications that facilitate long-term forest biomass utilization options including installation of a district heating and cooling facility using forest biomass as feedstock, within Paradise.
