Mescalero Apache Tribe Retains TSS to Conduct Forest Resource Assessment

The Mescalero Apache Tribe (MAT) retained TSS in May 2017 to conduct a forest resource assessment focused on a target study area located within 75 miles of Mescalero Forest Products sawmill. The forest resource assessment is one of the critical factors to be considered when evaluating the feasibility of reopening the Tribal sawmill enterprise. The Tribe owns and manages significant forest resources, including 220,000 acres of forestland on the Reservation. In addition, forest resource management agencies in the region (USDA Forest Service, State of New Mexico) manage significant resources capable of providing sustainable volumes of sawlogs and forest biomass material.
