As is the case with many California counties located in the Sierra Nevada range, Calaveras County has been severely impacted by wildfire and tree mortality from extended drought conditions. Tree mortality near county infrastructure (roads, parks, buildings) are a significant hazard and many are targeted for mitigation. In September 2017, Calaveras County retained TSS as the Program Manager (PM) for the County’s Tree Mortality Program. As the PM, TSS is responsible for county-wide tree assessment to document dead and dying tree locations, designing tree removal/mitigation projects, assisting with selection of tree mitigation contractors and providing oversight of the tree removal operations. In addition TSS will be managing an outreach effort to provide County residents with the latest information regarding best management practices in the removal of tree mortality and hazardous fuels.
